Thorn, Netherlands

December 2006
Another out of order post, I know.....sorry. I am catching up bit-by-bit.

We took the whole family to Thorn, Netherlands. Thorn is best known for its white washed houses that line the main streets.

After walking through the town for a short while, we soon decided to keep our sightseeing (and eating) indoors because it was so cold! We ducked into the old abby church to look around and conversed with the wonderful man in the ticket window. He was what we were becoming familiar with here in the Netherlands...a very friendly Dutch man who loved to talk in English to Americans. We discovered that in his younger days, he was a Dutch Marine and was stationed in North Carolina. He was very excited to learn that we lived there at one time.
After touring the abby, we walked across the street and enjoyed traditional Dutch Pannekeuken for dinner.

The famous whitewashed houses lining the streets make it look even colder than it was!

The abby

Time to eat! Will is drizzling stroop (sort of a cross between apple butter and molasses) on his pannekeuken. They were yummy and perfect with hot cocoa to drink.
